Resolution 087: Task Force on developing a global standard for genetic diversity assessments

The CGSG will lead a Task Force on Developing a Global Standard for Genetic Diversity Assessments, which was adopted at the 2025 World Conservation Forum and will move forward as a formal resolution in the upcoming SSC quadrennium. This initiative will help to guide global conservation genetic policy and practice into the future, supporting countries in meeting and operationalising the genetic components of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Global Biodiversity Framework. The purpose of the Task Force is to develop, test, and evaluate a standardised global framework for assessing the genetic diversity status of species and populations, capturing both conservation and genetic erosion.
